Niepoort's 'V.V.' (Very Old) Port is a legendary monument in the world of fortified wines, originally conceived in 1952 by Eduard Dirk Niepoort to honor his father, Rolf. This extraordinary blend represents the pinnacle of the house's blending mastery, incorporating components of extremely rare, pre-phylloxera wines dating back to the legendary 1863 vintage. Sourced from ancient vineyards (vinhas velhas) in the Douro Valley, the wine has undergone near-eternal aging in historic 600-liter wooden pipes in the cool, damp cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. The result is a Port of sublime concentration, boasting an amber-mahogany hue, infinite complexity, and a vibrant, life-affirming acidity that defies its immense age. It is a liquid time capsule, released only in tiny quantities to mark significant milestones in the house's history.
