Paul Jaboulet Aine's Saint-Joseph 'La Grande Pompee' is a classic expression of Northern Rhone Syrah, steeped in local history. The cuvee's name pays homage to the legendary warrior Pompee, a companion of Charlemagne who, according to local folklore, fought on these very hillsides. Grown on the steep, terraced granite slopes of the Saint-Joseph appellation—historically praised by Victor Hugo as 'Vin de Mauves'—the vines benefit from excellent sun exposure and well-draining soils. The wine is crafted from 100% Syrah, vinified traditionally, and aged in French oak barrels for approximately 12 months. This process yields a deeply colored, aromatic red boasting signature notes of dark bramble fruits, cracked black pepper, violets, and a distinct smoky minerality reflective of its granitic terroir.
