Paul Jaboulet Aîné's Vin de Paille is a rare, sweet nectar steeped in Northern Rhône history. Sourced from the legendary granite terraces of the Hermitage hill, this wine is crafted from Marsanne grapes. The traditional passerillage method involves drying the hand-harvested grapes on straw mats for several months. This process dehydrates the berries, concentrating the sugars, acids, and flavors to microscopic yields. Historically, Vin de Paille from Hermitage was a favored drink among European royalty and Russian Tsars in the 19th century. Jaboulet only revives this labor-intensive cuvée in exceptional vintages, offering an opulent sensory journey of dried apricots, honeyed figs, toasted nuts, and exotic spices, all balanced by a remarkable vein of acidity inherited from the steep, sun-drenched granitic soils.

Established in 1834 by Antoine Jaboulet on the sun-drenched granite slopes of Tain-l'Hermitage, Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné stands as one of the Rhône Valley's most storied viticultural estates. Acquired in 2006 by the Frey family, the domain experienced a profound renaissance under the stewardship of master oenologist and viticulturist Caroline Frey, who converted its extensive Northern Rhône holdings to certified organic viticulture alongside rigorous biodynamic regimens. While globally renowned for its legendary Hermitage reds like La Chapelle, the estate crafts equally sublime white wines from premier terroirs spanning Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Condrieu, and the Southern Rhône. Here, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, and Grenache Blanc are harvested at meticulous phenolic maturity from complex alluvial pebbles, loess, and fractured granitic soils. Vinified with gentle gravity flow, temperature-regulated fermentation, and judicious French oak contact on fine lees, Jaboulet whites—exemplified by Chevalier de Stérimberg, Domaine de Thalabert Mule Blanche, and Les Jalets Blanc—deliver exceptional minerality, textural waxiness, and refined age-worthy precision.
