Penfolds Reserve Bin A Chardonnay (with the '09A' designation representing the highly acclaimed 2009 vintage release of this series) is a benchmark cool-climate white wine that helped redefine modern Australian Chardonnay. Sourced entirely from the high-altitude, cool-climate vineyards of the Adelaide Hills, this wine represents a stylistic evolution toward restraint, elegance, and mineral tension. The grapes are hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed directly into French oak barriques for wild yeast fermentation. To build its signature complexity and creamy texture, the wine undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation alongside regular lees stirring, all while maintaining a precise, linear acid profile. This series has established a formidable reputation, showcasing how South Australian terroir can yield white wines of incredible sophistication and Burgundian-like complexity.

Penfolds blev grundlagt i 1844 af dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold og hans hustru Mary på Magill Estate i South Australia og er i dag et af Australiens ældste og mest ikoniske vinhuse. Ejendommen opnåede legendarisk international anerkendelse i 1950'erne under den visionære chefvinmager Max Schubert, som skabte Penfolds Grange og revolutionerede landets vinfremstilling. Drevet af en berømt filosofi om at blande på tværs af regioner og druesorter udvælger Penfolds enestående druer fra historiske australske terroirs – herunder Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale og Coonawarra – samt fra udvalgte internationale topområder.
