Often affectionately dubbed 'Baby Grange' because components of the wine are matured in the very same American oak hogsheads that held the previous vintage of Penfolds' flagship Grange, Bin 389 is an iconic Australian blend that beautifully marries the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the rich mid-palate of Shiraz. The 2019 vintage was sourced from premium vineyards across South Australia, including the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Wrattonbully, and Coonawarra. The growing season was characterized by a warm and dry spring and summer, which naturally restricted yields but resulted in grapes of exceptional concentration, deep color, and intense flavor profiles. Aged for 12 months in 25% new American oak hogsheads, this vintage showcases a seamless integration of dark fruit, savory spice, and fine-grained, structural tannins.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Founded in 1844 by Dr. Christopher and Mary Penfold at Magill Estate near Adelaide, Penfolds is one of Australia's oldest and most iconic wineries, now headquartered in Nuriootpa, South Australia. The estate is celebrated for pioneering a unique house style centered on multi-regional and multi-vineyard blending, a philosophy perfected by legendary winemaker Max Schubert in the mid-20th century. Penfolds is globally renowned for its robust, structured red wines aged in premium oak, most notably its flagship Grange—a rich, collectible Shiraz-based blend—alongside acclaimed expressions like Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz and Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, while maintaining its deep South Australian roots, the producer has expanded its winemaking footprint to include exceptional terroirs in California, Bordeaux, and beyond.
