The Penfolds Cellar Reserve Grenache is a testament to the winery's ongoing spirit of experimentation, a philosophy that dates back to Max Schubert's secret trials with Grange. Released in limited quantities and primarily available through the cellar door, this wine showcases a contemporary, refined expression of South Australian Grenache, primarily sourced from the ancient soils of the Barossa Valley. Unlike the heavy, highly extracted styles of the past, this cuvée is crafted to emphasize the grape's natural perfume, bright red fruit character, and intricate spice. Winemakers utilize seasoned French oak barriques to gently nurture the wine without overshadowing its delicate floral aromatics and fine-grained tannins, offering a beautiful narrative of Barossa's old-vine heritage.

Penfolds blev grundlagt i 1844 af dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold og hans hustru Mary på Magill Estate i South Australia og er i dag et af Australiens ældste og mest ikoniske vinhuse. Ejendommen opnåede legendarisk international anerkendelse i 1950'erne under den visionære chefvinmager Max Schubert, som skabte Penfolds Grange og revolutionerede landets vinfremstilling. Drevet af en berømt filosofi om at blande på tværs af regioner og druesorter udvælger Penfolds enestående druer fra historiske australske terroirs – herunder Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale og Coonawarra – samt fra udvalgte internationale topområder.
