Penfolds Grange is the undisputed icon of Australian wine, born from the visionary ambition of winemaker Max Schubert in the early 1950s. Inspired by his trip to Bordeaux, Schubert sought to create a red wine capable of aging for decades. Initially rejected by the Penfolds board, who ordered him to cease production, Schubert secretly continued crafting Grange in the depths of the Magill Estate cellars. When these hidden vintages were finally re-evaluated years later, they were recognized as masterpieces, prompting the board to officially restart production. Grange is defined by its multi-vineyard, multi-regional blending philosophy, sourcing the finest Shiraz from regions like the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Magill Estate. It is matured for 18 to 20 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads, resulting in a monumental, deeply concentrated wine with immense structure, dark fruit complexity, and legendary longevity.
