Penfolds Koonunga Hill Autumn Riesling holds a special place in the history of Australian white wine. First released in 1971, the 'Autumn' label was highly popular in the 1970s and 1980s, showcasing the versatility of South Australian Riesling. Today, it is crafted primarily from premium cool-climate vineyards in regions like the Eden Valley, celebrated for its aromatic intensity, boasting classic notes of citrus blossom, lime zest, and mineral acidity. The winemaking philosophy focuses on capturing the pure, pristine fruit character of the Riesling grape, utilizing protective, temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation to retain maximum freshness and vibrancy without any oak influence.

Penfolds blev grundlagt i 1844 af dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold og hans hustru Mary på Magill Estate i South Australia og er i dag et af Australiens ældste og mest ikoniske vinhuse. Ejendommen opnåede legendarisk international anerkendelse i 1950'erne under den visionære chefvinmager Max Schubert, som skabte Penfolds Grange og revolutionerede landets vinfremstilling. Drevet af en berømt filosofi om at blande på tværs af regioner og druesorter udvælger Penfolds enestående druer fra historiske australske terroirs – herunder Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale og Coonawarra – samt fra udvalgte internationale topområder. Vinhuset er verdenskendt for kraftfulde, upåklageligt strukturerede og særdeles lagringsværdige vine anført af flagskibet Grange, Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon og den berømmede Bin-serie.
