Deeply tied to the folklore of Australian winemaking, this wine pays homage to the historic Cellar 3 at Penfolds' Magill Estate. It was in this very underground cellar that legendary winemaker Max Schubert secretly hid his experimental Grange vintages of 1957, 1958, and 1959 after being formally ordered by the Penfolds board to shut down the project. Crafted from the historic, low-yielding Magill Estate vineyard on the edge of Adelaide, this Shiraz is made using traditional methods, including hand-harvesting, open fermenters, and basket pressing. Unlike the multi-regional blends Penfolds is famous for, this represents a rare, single-vineyard expression of place, showcasing a more elegant, aromatic, and finely structured profile with seamless integration of French and American oak.
