Penfolds has a storied history of working with Rhône varieties in South Australia, a region blessed with some of the oldest continuously producing Grenache, Shiraz, and Mourvèdre (locally known as Mataro) vines in the world. Inspired by the traditional blends of the Southern Rhône Valley, this wine showcases the synergy of these three grapes. Grenache provides vibrant raspberry and cherry aromatics alongside a plush mid-palate; Shiraz contributes rich dark plum notes, weight, and structural backbone; while Mourvèdre lends savory complexity, earthiness, and fine-grained tannins. Sourced from premium vineyards across South Australia, the fruit is handled carefully and aged predominantly in seasoned French and American oak hogsheads to ensure the bright, spicy fruit character remains the hero of the glass.
