Penfolds has a long and storied history of utilizing experimental 'Trial Bins' to push the boundaries of Australian winemaking, a practice that famously led to the creation of flagship whites like Yattarna. This wine represents Penfolds' exploration of South Australian Semillon, a varietal with deep roots in regions like the Barossa Valley. Unlike the austere, ultra-low-alcohol style of Hunter Valley Semillon, South Australian expressions are typically rounder, more textured, and forward. They showcase bright citrus, lemon curd, and soft herbaceous notes, often enhanced by brief contact with seasoned oak or yeast lees to add complexity and mouthfeel while preserving the grape's natural vibrancy.

Penfolds blev grundlagt i 1844 af dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold og hans hustru Mary på Magill Estate i South Australia og er i dag et af Australiens ældste og mest ikoniske vinhuse. Ejendommen opnåede legendarisk international anerkendelse i 1950'erne under den visionære chefvinmager Max Schubert, som skabte Penfolds Grange og revolutionerede landets vinfremstilling.
