The 'Old Wine Reserva' from Pereira D'Oliveira represents the timeless tradition of Madeira winemaking, crafted by one of the island's most revered historic lodges. Located in Funchal, D'Oliveira utilizes the traditional canteiro system, where wines are aged in seasoned oak casks in warm lofts under the gentle heat of the sun. This slow, oxidative process mimics the historic sea voyages of the 17th and 18th centuries, during which barrels of wine were transformed by the tropical heat of ship holds. This Reserva showcases the house's signature style: a masterful balance of intense, searing acidity and deep, concentrated complexity. It offers a sensory journey through notes of dried figs, burnt orange peel, toasted nuts, and dark caramel, underpinned by a powerful saline minerality that reflects Madeira's volcanic soils.
