Terrantez is one of Madeira's most legendary, enigmatic, and nearly extinct noble grape varieties. Known for the famous local adage, 'As uvas de Terrantez, não as comas nem as dês, para vinho Deus as fez' (The grapes of Terrantez, neither eat them nor give them away, for God made them for wine), this low-yielding, thin-skinned variety produces wines of haunting complexity. Pereira D'Oliveira, legendary guardians of old Madeira stocks, crafts this Reserva using the traditional canteiro system, where the wine is gently heated by the natural warmth of the sun in seasoned oak casks stored in the lofts of Funchal. The resulting Terrantez Reserva is a masterclass in balance, showcasing the variety's signature duality: a luscious, medium-dry palate offset by a striking, vibrant acidity and a characteristic, slightly bitter, smoky-spicy finish.
