The Pereira D'Oliveira Terrantez 1880 is a legendary monument in the history of wine. Terrantez is a notoriously low-yielding, thin-skinned grape that is nearly extinct on the island of Madeira, making any surviving vintage highly prized. This extraordinary Frasqueira was aged for over a century in seasoned oak casks in the family's Funchal cellars under the traditional canteiro system, where gentle warmth naturally concentrated its sugars, acidity, and complex aromatics. The wine is celebrated for its hauntingly complex bouquet of dried orange peel, dark spices, beeswax, and mahogany, balanced by a searing, vibrant acidity and the classic, slightly bitter-sweet finish characteristic of the Terrantez grape. It represents a liquid time capsule from a bygone era of Portuguese winemaking.
