Terrantez is one of the most legendary and rarest grape varieties of Madeira, famously celebrated in the local Portuguese proverb, 'As uvas de Terrantez, não as comas nem as dês, para vinho Deus as fez' (Neither eat nor give away Terrantez grapes, for God made them for wine). Known for its extremely low yields and delicate nature, the variety nearly faced extinction, making any old bottling highly prized. Pereira D'Oliveira's Terrantez is crafted in the traditional medium-dry style, aged slowly in seasoned oak casks under the warm canteiro system in Funchal. This patient, decades-long oxidative aging coaxes out an extraordinary aromatic profile characterized by dried citrus peel, exotic spices, dark honey, and a distinctive, noble bitter-orange finish balanced by searing, vibrant acidity.
