Distilled in 1979, just a few years before the legendary Islay distillery was closed in 1983, this bottling captured a ghost in a bottle. For decades, Port Ellen's warehouses sat quiet on the south coast of Islay, slowly maturing what would become some of the most sought-after liquid gold in the world. This first official release showcases the classic, irreplaceable Port Ellen character: a sublime harmony of intense, oily peat smoke, maritime sea spray, damp leather, and a delicate thread of citrus and soft wax. Port Ellen blev grundlagt i 1825 af Alexander Mackay på Islays sydkyst og står i dag som et af de mest ikoniske og ærefrygtindgydende navne i skotsk whiskyhistorie. Efter en række udvidelser under Distillers Company Limited (i dag Diageo) lukkede destilleriet under whiskybranchens krise i 1983. Det opnåede hurtigt en mytisk status som et såkaldt 'spøgelsesdestilleri', indtil det efter en gennemgribende og omhyggelig genopbygning genåbnede dørene i 2024. Port Ellen er verdenskendt for sin raffinerede, maritime profil, der forener elegant tørverøg, en fyldig, olieret tekstur, kystnær saltholdighed og fine nuancer af citrus.
