Prunotto's Colonnello Riserva represents a pinnacle of Piedmontese winemaking, hailing from the legendary Bussia cru in Monforte d'Alba. The history of Prunotto is deeply intertwined with the modern renaissance of Barolo; Alfredo Prunotto acquired the winery in 1923, and the estate was among the very first to bottle single-vineyard Barolos in the 1960s. The Colonnello vineyard is a prized parcel characterized by a unique microclimate and soils rich in sand, clay, and silt. This specific terroir coaxes a remarkably elegant, perfumed, and velvety expression from the demanding Nebbiolo grape. To earn the 'Riserva' designation, the wine undergoes extensive aging, spending several years in oak casks and bottle, allowing its initial notes of red berries and rose petals to evolve into a majestic tapestry of forest floor, licorice, tobacco, and black truffle.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1923 when Alfredo Prunotto acquired the cooperative 'Ai Vini delle Langhe,' the Prunotto winery is situated in Alba, in the heart of Italy's Piedmont region. Under the stewardship of the Antinori family since 1989, the estate has consistently championed the diverse terroirs of the Langhe and Monferrato hills. Prunotto balances traditional Piedmontese winemaking practices, such as aging in large oak casks, with modern precision to craft elegant, terroir-driven wines. The winery is celebrated for its exceptional single-vineyard expressions, including the Barolo Bussia and Barbaresco Bric Turot, alongside classic regional styles like Nebbiolo d'Alba Occhetti and Roero Arneis.
