Grandjó Branco is sourced from the high-altitude plateau of Alijó in the Douro, specifically from the historic Quinta do Casal da Granja. This estate, managed by the historic Real Companhia Velha, benefits from a cooler microclimate that is ideal for preserving the crisp acidity and intense aromatics of white grapes. Historically, the estate was famous for producing late-harvest sweet wines due to morning mists that encourage noble rot, but its dry white counterpart, Grandjó Branco, has become a beloved modern classic. Founded in 1756 by Royal Charter of King José I under the guidance of the Marquis of Pombal, Real Companhia Velha is the oldest and most historic wine enterprise in Portugal. With its storied maturation cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and sprawling estate vineyards across the Douro Valley, the company was central to the creation of the world's first officially demarcated wine region.
