✨ Technical Specifications
The story of Porca de Murça is deeply intertwined with Portuguese folklore, taking its name from a prehistoric granite statue of a wild boar that stands in the town square of Murça, symbolizing a legendary beast that once terrorized local farmers. Established by Real Companhia Velha in 1928, Porca de Murça has grown into one of Portugal's most iconic and enduring wine brands. The Reserva Branco represents a more sophisticated expression of this heritage, sourced from high-altitude vineyards in the Douro Valley where cooler temperatures preserve the grapes' natural acidity. To craft this elegant white, winemakers ferment the juice in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by partial aging in French oak barrels. This careful process imparts a beautifully balanced structure, combining fresh tropical and citrus fruit aromas with subtle toasted notes, a creamy texture, and a refined mineral finish characteristic of the region's schist soils.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1756 by Royal Charter of King José I under the guidance of the Marquis of Pombal, Real Companhia Velha is the oldest and most historic wine enterprise in Portugal. With its storied maturation cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and sprawling estate vineyards across the Douro Valley, the company was central to the creation of the world's first officially demarcated wine region. Managed for decades by the Silva Reis family, the producer balances centuries-old tradition with modern enology across acclaimed estates such as Quinta das Carvalhas, Quinta de Cidrô, and Quinta dos Aciprestes. Real Companhia Velha is renowned globally for its distinguished portfolio of classic Port wines—including aged Tawnies, Colheitas, and Vintage Ports—as well as elegant, terroir-driven Douro DOC still wines.
