Founded in 1724 by a young winegrower, the House of Rémy Martin has spent three centuries perfecting the art of Cognac. This specific release, the Fine Champagne VSOP Gold Label bottled in the 1980s, is a liquid time capsule representing a classic era of French spirit production. To carry the 'Fine Champagne' designation, the eaux-de-vie must originate exclusively from the two finest crus of the region: Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, with at least 50% coming from the former. Grown in the highly prized, porous chalk soils of Charente, the Ugni Blanc grapes yield a high-acid, low-alcohol wine perfect for distillation. Double-distilled on the lees in traditional small copper alembic stills, the spirit was then aged in Limousin oak casks, developing its signature amber hue, notes of dried stone fruits, vanilla, and subtle baking spices. The 1980s bottling is highly sought after by collectors for its rich, slightly heavier style compared to modern VSOP expressions, showcasing the historical blending mastery of the house.
