✨ Technical Specifications
First created in 1874, Louis XIII is the crown jewel of Remy Martin, representing the absolute pinnacle of Cognac craftsmanship. This legendary 'Tres Vieille' edition, bottled in 1969, is an exquisite blend of up to 1,200 individual eaux-de-vie sourced exclusively from the chalky, limestone-rich soils of Grande Champagne, the premier cru of the Cognac region. These precious spirits were aged for decades in historic, thin-walled oak tiercon casks, some of which date back to the 19th century. The iconic decanter itself is steeped in history, its design inspired by a metal flask recovered from the site of the Battle of Jarnac in 1569. On the palate, it offers an unparalleled symphony of myrrh, dried fruits, honey, cigar box, and delicate floral notes, culminating in a legendary finish that lingers on the palate for hours.
🍾 About the Producer
Established in 1724 by winegrower Rémy Martin, Maison Rémy Martin stands as an essential pillar of Cognac viticulture and distillation history. Based in the town of Cognac within the Charente department, the house is renowned for crafting Fine Champagne Cognac, sourcing exclusively from the chalk-dominant, porous Cretaceous limestone soils of Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne. These dual premier crus yield exceptional acidity and aromatics, ideally suited for prolonged maturation. Distillation occurs traditionally on the fine lees in small copper Charentais pot stills, producing eaux-de-vie of notable depth, opulence, and structural longevity. Maturation takes place in fine-grained French Limousin oak casks, overseen today by Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau. The estate and its partner cooperative, Alliance Fine Champagne, adhere to rigorous Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE Level 3) sustainable certifications. Celebrated benchmarks include the venerable Louis XIII, Rémy Martin XO, and 1738 Accord Royal, embodying layered notes of dried fruit, candied citrus, jasmine, and refined rancio.
