✨ Technical Specifications
Sourced primarily from mature, low-yielding bush vines planted across ironstone and red clay soils in coastal-influenced maritime zones, this expression highlights South Australian Grenache vinified with classical restraint. Fruit undergoes static or heading-down open fermentation before gentle basket pressing, a technique designed to extract supple, velvety tannins without excessive phenolic bitterness. The wine typically matures in seasoned French and American oak puncheons and hogsheads to preserve vibrancy, confection-free red fruit aromatics, and savory spice.
🍾 About the Producer
Established in 1838 by pioneer John Reynell, Reynella is widely celebrated as the cradle of the commercial South Australian wine industry. Situated just north of the McLaren Vale boundary in Old Reynella, the historic estate is home to 'The Old Cave,' the oldest continually operating wine cellar in Australia, excavated into limestone in 1845. The region benefits from a Mediterranean climate influenced by maritime breezes from the nearby Gulf St Vincent, where ironstone, clay, and alluvial soils allow old-vine dry-grown varieties to flourish with depth and natural balance. Winemaking at Reynella adheres to traditional techniques, notably heading-down open fermentation and methodical basket pressing, preserving fruit purity while polishing structural tannins. Acquired by the Hardy family in 1982 and continuing today under the Accolade Wines umbrella, the estate is renowned for its benchmark expressions, most notably its Basket Pressed Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and rich, spicy Basket Pressed Grenache.
