Robert Mondavi was a visionary who fundamentally reshaped the landscape of California winemaking. In 1966, he established his namesake winery in Oakville, Napa Valley, with the goal of producing wines that could compete with the finest in Europe. At the time, Sauvignon Blanc in California was often sweet and poorly regarded. Mondavi revolutionized the variety by dry-fermenting it and, in 1968, famously rebranding a barrel-aged version as 'Fumé Blanc'—a nod to France's Pouilly-Fumé. The classic Robert Mondavi Winery Sauvignon Blanc celebrates this rich heritage, showcasing a bright, expressive style. Sourced from premier California vineyards, it typically blends vibrant Sauvignon Blanc with a small percentage of Sémillon for added body. Fermented primarily in stainless steel to preserve its crisp, natural acidity, a portion is often aged on its lees to introduce a subtle, creamy complexity, resulting in a wine defined by notes of lemongrass, green apple, and melon.

Den visionære vinmager Robert Mondavi grundlagde Robert Mondavi Winery i Oakville i 1966 med en klar ambition: at skabe vine i Napa Valley, som kunne måle sig med verdens ypperste vinhuse.
