Robert Mondavi founded his legendary winery in 1966 with a vision to create Napa Valley wines that could stand among the world's finest. The Estates Chardonnay is a tribute to this pioneering spirit, sourced primarily from the cool, wind-swept vineyards of the Carneros region at the southern tip of Napa Valley. Here, morning fog and chilly breezes from San Pablo Bay slow ripening, allowing the Chardonnay grapes to develop intense flavor complexity while preserving crucial natural acidity. Crafted using traditional Burgundian techniques, the wine is fermented and aged in French oak barrels with regular lees stirring (bâtonnage). This meticulous process imparts a rich, creamy texture and subtle toasted brioche notes, beautifully balancing the vibrant citrus and stone fruit character of the Carneros terroir.

Den visionære vinmager Robert Mondavi grundlagde Robert Mondavi Winery i Oakville i 1966 med en klar ambition: at skabe vine i Napa Valley, som kunne måle sig med verdens ypperste vinhuse. Med base i det ikoniske vineri opført i californisk missionsstil, tegnet af arkitekten Cliff May, kom huset til at spille en afgørende rolle i udviklingen af den moderne amerikanske vinindustri – ikke mindst i kraft af arbejdet med den historiske mark To Kalon Vineyard. Mondavi gik forrest i udbredelsen af nyskabende dyrkningsmetoder, temperaturstyret gæring på rustfri ståltanke og modning på franske egetræsfade, ligesom han gjorde tørgæret Sauvignon Blanc berømt under navnet Fumé Blanc. I dag er vinhuset verdenskendt for sine skelsættende Cabernet Sauvignon-vine fra Oakville og Reserve-serien samt for sine strukturerede, elegante Chardonnay-vine og udtryksfulde blends i klassisk Bordeaux-stil.
