Hailing from the rugged, sun-drenched hills of Montalcino in southern Tuscany, Ruffino's Greppone Mazzi is a classic expression of Brunello di Montalcino. The estate takes its name from 'greppo', a local Tuscan term denoting the steep, rocky slopes that define this dramatic vineyard landscape. Crafted exclusively from 100% Sangiovese Grosso, this wine benefits from high-altitude vineyards and stony soils that force the vines to dig deep for nutrients, yielding intense, concentrated fruit. Steeped in history, the Greppone Mazzi estate features an ancient villa surrounded by olive groves and historic vineyards. Following traditional Montalcino winemaking practices, the wine undergoes extended aging in large Slavonian oak casks for around three years, followed by further refinement in the bottle. This patient process coaxes out complex aromas of dark cherry, leather, tobacco, and earthy underbrush, framed by firm, elegant tannins and a vibrant, food-friendly acidity.
