Ruffino's Riserva Ducale is one of Tuscany's most storied wines, first released in 1927 to honor the Duke of Aosta. The Duke was so enamored with Ruffino's wines that in 1890 he appointed them as the official supplier to the Italian Royal Family, a historic connection immortalized on the wine's iconic label. Sourced from the rolling hills of the Chianti Classico region, this red is crafted primarily from Sangiovese, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wine undergoes traditional aging in oak casks and barriques for approximately 24 months, resulting in a complex profile of wild berries, cherry, leather, and tobacco, framed by elegant tannins and a vibrant, terroir-driven acidity.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Founded in 1877 by cousins Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino in the historic town of Pontassieve near Florence, Ruffino is one of Tuscany's most iconic and enduring wine estates. Driven by a commitment to capturing the true essence of Italian terroir, the house gained early international acclaim, famously becoming the official supplier to the Italian royal family. Today, Ruffino is celebrated for its benchmark Chianti Classico expressions, most notably the legendary Riserva Ducale and Riserva Ducale Oro, alongside acclaimed Super Tuscans like Modus and exceptional Brunello di Montalcino from their Greppone Mazzi estate. By balancing time-honored Tuscan traditions with modern, sustainable viticulture, Ruffino continues to craft a diverse portfolio of elegant reds, crisp whites, and expressive rosés.
