Hailing from Ruffino's picturesque Santedame estate in the heart of the Chianti Classico region near Castellina, Romitorio Santedame is a tribute to Tuscan winemaking heritage. The wine takes its name from an ancient hermitage ('romitorio') located on the property, which features a historic 15th-century fresco of the Madonna. This wine is traditionally crafted as a distinctive Tuscan red, marrying the noble Sangiovese with the deep, color-rich Colorino grape. The estate's soils, rich in galestro clay and limestone, combined with a favorable microclimate, yield grapes of exceptional concentration. Aged carefully in French oak barriques, the wine develops a complex profile characterized by dark cherry, plum, spice, and elegant balsamic undertones, representing a harmonious blend of traditional soul and modern refinement.

Ruffino blev grundlagt i 1877 i Pontassieve nær Firenze af fætrene Ilario og Leopoldo Ruffino og har siden udviklet sig til en af de mest ikoniske ambassadører for toscansk vinavl. Vingården opnåede tidligt stor anerkendelse som officiel hofleverandør til det italienske kongehus – en hæder, der blev udødeliggjort med flagskibet Riserva Ducale, skabt i 1927 til ære for hertugen af Aosta.
