🍾 About the Producer
Cantine San Marzano was established in 1962 when 19 grape growers united in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria DOC to elevate Puglia's viticultural landscape from bulk-commodity trade to fine wine excellence. Guided by long-serving president Francesco Cavallo since 1982, the cooperative now unites approximately 1,200 member growers cultivating 1,500 hectares across the Salento peninsula. The terroir benefits from a warm Mediterranean climate flanked by the Ionian and Adriatic Seas, where iron-rich, red residual soils over limestone bedrock nurture historic bush-trained alberello vines. Under winemakers Caterina Bellanova and Davide Ragusa, San Marzano pairs traditional hand-harvesting with state-of-the-art temperature-controlled vinification. While globally famous for opulent reds like Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria, the estate has demonstrated exceptional range with pristine, contemporary expressions such as Tramari Rosé di Primitivo, celebrated for its delicate pale hue, saline freshness, wild Mediterranean scrub aromatics, and focused red-berry vibrancy.
