Crafted as a tribute to Count Gaetano Marzotto, the visionary founder of Santa Margherita who revolutionized Italian white wine in 1961 by vinifying Pinot Grigio off the skins, the Impronta del Fondatore (The Founder's Footprint) represents the pinnacle of the estate's alpine winemaking heritage. Sourced from selected high-altitude vineyards in the Alto Adige region, the vines thrive on steep, sun-drenched slopes characterized by dramatic diurnal temperature swings and mineral-rich, gravelly soils. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by a period of aging on the fine lees to impart a refined texture and complexity. The resulting wine is a sophisticated expression of the grape, balancing vibrant mountain minerality and crisp acidity with elegant aromas of ripe golden apple, white peach, and alpine wildflowers.

Santa Margherita blev grundlagt i 1935 af grev Gaetano Marzotto og startede som et ambitiøst landbrugsprojekt i Fossalta di Portogruaro. Sidenhen har vinhuset udviklet sig til et af Italiens mest ikoniske og internationalt anerkendte vinhuse. I 1961 revolutionerede vineriet den globale vinkultur, da det som pioner introducerede hvidvinificering af de rosafarvede Pinot Grigio-druer i Adige-dalen. Det resulterede i en frisk, sprød og aromatisk stil, som genopfandt italiensk hvidvin. I dag råder Santa Margherita over førsteklasses vinmarker i nogle af Italiens mest berømte terroirs, herunder Alto Adige, Valdobbiadene, Toscana og Lombardiet.
