Originating in the Rhône Valley of France, Roussanne derives its name from 'roux', French for the russet-gold color the berries adopt when fully ripe. It is a notoriously finicky grape to cultivate, demanding precise attention to avoid disease and uneven ripening. In the wind-swept Salinas Valley, Scheid utilizes its unique microclimates to coax the very best from this noble variety. The cooling maritime breezes and morning fogs from Monterey Bay slow down the ripening process, allowing the grapes to develop their signature complex aromatics of stone fruit, honeysuckle, and herbal tea, while preserving a crisp, refreshing acidity. Scheid Vineyards blev grundlagt i 1972 af Al Scheid og er en pionervirksomhed beliggende i hjertet af Salinas Valley i Californiens Monterey County. Gennem fem årtier har den familieejede vingård udvidet sit virke til tolv unikke vinmarker, hvor man udnytter den markante, kølende havbrise fra Monterey Bay til at dyrke en bred vifte af druesorter. Vingården er dybt engageret i bæredygtighed, drives udelukkende af vedvarende vindenergi og arbejder efter strenge, certificerede bæredygtige principper. Scheid Vineyards er anerkendt for sin alsidige portefølje af levende hvid-, rød- og rosévine og fremstiller både roste enkeltdruevine på eksempelvis Cabernet Sauvignon, Albariño og Barbera samt håndværksmæssige cuvéer som deres Claret Reserve.
