Its origins trace back to Moscow in the 1860s, where Pyotr Arsenievich Smirnov established his distillery. Smirnov pioneered charcoal filtration in the 1870s, becoming the first to utilize this method to create an exceptionally smooth, neutral spirit. Following the Russian Revolution, the family fled the country, eventually re-establishing the brand in the West under the French spelling 'Smirnoff'. Today, this iconic spirit is produced via a triple-distillation process of grain and is filtered ten times through charcoal, resulting in its signature clean, crisp, and ultra-smooth profile.
