Suntory Old Whisky, affectionately nicknamed 'Daruma' after the traditional Japanese wishing doll due to its iconic squat, black bottle, is a legendary pillar of Japanese spirits history. First created in 1940 and officially released in 1950, it became the quintessential drink of Japan's post-war economic boom. This rare commemorative edition was bottled specifically for the 1982 Exposition (Expo '82) in Japan, capturing a moment of national pride and celebration. Blended using mature malt whiskies from the historic Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries alongside fine grain whiskies, it offers a harmonious profile of sweet vanilla, dried dark fruits, mild oak, and a whisper of peat smoke, representing Suntory's signature blending philosophy of harmony between Japanese nature and craftsmanship.

Suntory blev grundlagt i 1899 af Shinjiro Torii i Osaka, Japan. Huset startede oprindeligt som en beskeden vinhandel, men revolutionerede siden drikkevareverdenen, da de i 1923 grundlagde Yamazaki Distillery og dermed banede vejen for autentisk japansk whisky. Drevet af pionerånden 'Yatte Minahare' – modet til at drømme stort og favne dristige udfordringer – udviklede huset en filosofi forankret i sublimt håndværk og en dyb ærefrygt for naturen.
