✨ Technical Specifications
Talisker's legendary 30 Year Old Special Release, bottled in 2008, represents a peak of maritime single malt craftsmanship from the Isle of Skye. Distilled in the late 1970s and matured for three decades in refill American and European oak casks, this rare cask-strength expression showcases how time can tame and transform Talisker's signature volcanic character. The distillery's traditional wooden worm tubs and unique five-still configuration impart a heavy, oily texture to the spirit, allowing it to withstand long maturation. Over thirty years in the damp, salt-sprayed warehouses of Carbost, the aggressive peat smoke and fiery black pepper of youth have softened into an elegant tapestry of beeswax, old leather, salted caramel, and subtle tropical fruit, all underpinned by a persistent, warming coastal brine.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1830 by brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill on the windswept shores of Loch Harport in Carbost, Talisker is the oldest operating distillery on the Isle of Skye. The distillery is celebrated for its unique distillation setup, featuring swan-neck wash stills and traditional outdoor worm tubs, which impart a signature maritime and volcanic intensity to the new-make spirit. Today part of Diageo's Classic Malts portfolio, Talisker maintains an uncompromising dedication to crafting robust, peated single malt Scotch whiskies. Its flagship style is revered across the globe for its harmonious interplay of coastal salinity, rich peat smoke, dried fruit richness, and an unmistakable fiery black pepper finish.
