First planted in 1868 by pioneer Hamilton Walker Crabb, who named the site 'To Kalon'—Greek for 'the highest beauty'—this historic Oakville vineyard features gravelly, well-drained soils that yield grapes of extraordinary concentration. TOR's specific bottling of Clone 4 highlights a clone renowned for producing small berries with thick skins, resulting in a wine of immense structure, deep color, and intense dark fruit character. Winemaker Jeff Ames employs a non-interventionist approach, utilizing native yeast fermentations and aging the wine in select French oak cooperages before bottling it unfined and unfiltered to preserve the pure, powerful voice of this sacred terroir.
