The historic To Kalon Vineyard, first planted by pioneer H.W. Crabb in 1868, derives its name from the Greek for 'the highest beauty.' Situated on the gravelly alluvial fan of the Oakville bench, this site enjoys warm days and cool marine breezes, creating the perfect crucible for Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaker Jeff Ames coaxes an opulent, multi-dimensional expression from these historic soils, utilizing native yeast fermentation and aging the wine in prime French oak barrels. The result is a monumental red wine defined by its seamless structure, signature notes of crème de cassis, graphite, and exotic spices, and a velvety texture that has made it a benchmark for California collectors.
