The wine's name pays tribute to an old, historic blacksmith's hut that stands on the vineyard site, serving as a rustic monument to the nineteenth-century pioneers who worked this land. Heathcote is celebrated for its unique, 500-million-year-old Cambrian greenstone soils. These ancient, deep-red soils provide superb natural drainage and moisture retention, allowing the Shiraz vines to develop deep root systems. The resulting fruit yields a wine of remarkable depth, characterized by intense dark plum notes, distinctive cracked black pepper spice, and a structural elegance derived from careful maturation in French oak hogsheads.

Established in 1858 by English immigrant Edward Tyrrell, Tyrrell's is one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious family-owned wineries, located in the historic Pokolbin sub-region of the Hunter Valley, New South Wales.
