This wine is a tribute to the Tyrrell family's deep-rooted history in Pokolbin, where they have farmed since 1858. Unlike the heavier, high-alcohol Shiraz styles found in warmer Australian regions, this estate bottling emphasizes elegance, bright red fruit, and savory complexity. Fermented in open-top fermenters and aged in a combination of large, older French oak casks and foudres, it preserves the bright primary fruit and distinctive earthy, leathery undertones characteristic of classic Hunter Shiraz. It is a wine steeped in the heritage of one of Australia's founding wine families, reflecting a traditional, hands-off winemaking philosophy.

Tyrrell's blev grundlagt i 1858 af Edward Tyrrell og er et af Australiens ældste og mest prestigefyldte familiedrevne vinhuse, smukt beliggende for foden af Brokenback Range i Hunter Valley i New South Wales. Vinhuset har været i familiens hænder i fem generationer og har spillet en skelsættende rolle i udviklingen af moderne australsk vinavl. Det var blandt andet her, landets første kommercielle Chardonnay så dagens lys med den legendariske Vat 47 i 1971.
