Tyrrell's HVD Chardonnay is sourced from the historic Hunter Valley Distillery (HVD) vineyard, which was originally planted in 1908 and is widely recognized as home to the oldest living Chardonnay vines in the world. Situated on a flat, sandy alluvial creek bed, the HVD vineyard benefits from unique soil conditions that allow the dry-grown vines to thrive without irrigation. The wine is crafted to showcase the pure, unadorned character of this ancient terroir. It is typically fermented in a combination of new and seasoned French oak casks, avoiding malolactic fermentation to preserve the natural, vibrant acidity and clean citrus and stone fruit profile characteristic of the Hunter Valley. This results in a Chardonnay of remarkable texture, elegance, and longevity.

Founded in 1858 by Edward Tyrrell, Tyrrell's is one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious family-owned wineries, nestled against the Brokenback Range in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. Spanning five generations of family stewardship, the estate played a seminal role in shaping modern Australian viticulture, including pioneering the country's first commercial Chardonnay with the legendary Vat 47 in 1971. The winery remains dedicated to traditional, minimal-intervention winemaking and the preservation of historic, own-rooted old-vine parcels that yield exceptional regional character.
