Vega Sicilia's Reserva Especial is the ultimate tribute to Spanish winemaking tradition, reviving an old custom of blending the finest vintages to create a seamless, timeless masterpiece. The 1985 release of this legendary cuvee is a meticulous blend of historic vintages, typically combining the monumental 1962, 1964, and 1973 harvests. Crafted predominantly from Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, the grapes are sourced from the estate's oldest vines rooted in the clay-limestone soils along the Duero River. This non-vintage blend undergoes an incredibly complex, decades-long aging process in both large oak vats and a succession of new and used French and American oak barrels. The result is a wine of mythical status, offering a profound sensory journey through layers of dried dark fruits, leather, cigar box, and exotic spices, underpinned by a seamless, velvety structure that represents the pinnacle of Ribera del Duero's terroir.
