Hailing from the limestone-rich slopes of Bussieres in the Maconnais region of Burgundy, the 'Les Clous' bottling by Maison Verget is a masterclass in precision and terroir expression. The vineyard of Les Clous is situated on a cold, high-altitude site with very stony, chalky soils, which imparts a distinctive, Chablis-like minerality to the Chardonnay grapes. Established in 1990 by Flemish iconoclast Jean-Marie Guffens and Maine Heynen, Maison Verget fundamentally revolutionized Burgundian négociant conventions. Rather than purchasing unfermented must or finished bulk wine, Guffens partnered with select growers across the Mâconnais, Côte d'Or, and Chablis to hand-harvest immaculate whole clusters directly. Headquartered in Sologny, the cellar operates in synergy with Guffens' artisanal domaine holdings, with winemaking spearheaded alongside Julien Desplans since 2006.
