✨ Technical Specifications
Verget's 'Terroirs de F.' represents a masterful expression of Chardonnay from the esteemed commune of Fuissé in the southern Burgundy region of the Mâconnais. Crafted by the visionary Jean-Marie Guffens, this cuvée highlights the exceptional clay-limestone soils of Fuissé, which impart both richness and a distinct mineral tension to the wine. Guffens, renowned for his revolutionary and often iconoclastic approach to winemaking, utilizes precise pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and concrete vats, with minimal oak influence. This technique preserves the pure, vibrant fruit character of the Chardonnay grape while allowing the underlying saline minerality and ripe stone fruit notes of the Fuissé terroir to shine through beautifully. It stands as a testament to Verget's philosophy of elevating Mâconnais wines to rival the prestigious growths of the Côte d'Or.
🍾 About the Producer
Maison Verget was established in 1990 by visionary Belgian winemaker Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine Heynen in Sologny, located in the Mâconnais region of southern Burgundy. Renowned as a trailblazing négociant-éleveur, the house revolutionized Burgundy winemaking by implementing uncompromising standards of fruit selection, gentle horizontal pressing, and precise maturation on fine lees with minimal oak intervention. While celebrated globally for its pure, mineral-laden Chardonnay sourced across prime terroirs from the Mâconnais to Chablis and the Côte d'Or, Verget also applies its meticulous craft to expressive Pinot Noir and pioneering southern expressions. The resulting wines are acclaimed for their tension, crystalline purity, and authentic expression of site.
