Veuve Clicquot's Extra Brut Extra Old 2 is a masterclass in the art of blending, a concept pioneered by the legendary Madame Clicquot herself in the 19th century. This unique multi-vintage cuvée is crafted exclusively from the house's prestigious collection of reserve wines, drawing from select historical years chosen for their complexity, structure, and freshness. The blend is dominated by Pinot Noir, providing the signature Clicquot strength and structure, complemented by elegant Chardonnay and fruit-forward Meunier. These reserve wines are aged for a minimum of three years in vats on their lees, followed by another three years of bottle aging post-disgorgement. With an exceptionally low dosage of 3 grams per liter, this Extra Brut expression reveals a pure, intense, and mineral-driven profile, combining the depth of maturity with vibrant energy.
🍾 About the Producer
Established in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot, Maison Veuve Clicquot attained legendary status under the stewardship of Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, who was widowed in 1805. Madame Clicquot pioneered landmark innovations, creating the first recorded vintage Champagne in 1810, developing the riddling table (pupitre) in 1816, and formulating the modern blended rosé Champagne method in 1818. Today owned by LVMH, the house oversees roughly 390 hectares of estate vineyards—dominated by Grand and Premier Cru parcels across the Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, and Vallée de la Marne—all certified under Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE 3) and Viticulture Durable en Champagne (VDC). Under Cellar Master Didier Mariotti, the winemaking philosophy remains anchored in Pinot Noir, imparting structure, breadth, and vinous intensity.
