Named after the traditional French gingerbread, the Pain d'Epices cuvée from Cave du Vieil-Armand is an aromatic tribute to Alsace's rich culinary heritage. Crafted from Gewurztraminer grapes grown in the sun-drenched, mineral-rich soils at the southern gateway of the Alsace wine route, this wine captures the essence of the region's festive folklore. Historically, gingerbread making was a highly respected guild craft in Alsace dating back to the Middle Ages, and this wine mirrors those complex, warm aromas. The winemakers utilize controlled fermentation to retain a delicate balance of natural residual sweetness and vibrant acidity, allowing the grape's signature exoticism to shine through. It represents a beautifully expressive style that bridges the gap between traditional dry wines and late-harvest dessert styles.

Established in 1959 at the foot of the historic Hartmannswillerkopf battlefield in Wuenheim, France, the Cave du Vieil-Armand is the southernmost wine cooperative in Alsace. Drawing from unique terroirs characterized by granite and silt soils, the winery is celebrated for its precise, expressive Crémant d'Alsace sparkling wines, including the Bienvenue Brut and Chateau Ollwiller expressions, the latter sourced from one of the region's few historic castle estates. Committed to sustainable winegrowing, they produce an elegant range of traditional Alsatian varietals, from mineral-driven Sylvaner to rich Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. The estate is located at 1 Route de Cernay, 68500 Wuenheim, Alsace, France, and their official website is https://www.cave-vieil-armand.com.
