Villa Maria, founded in 1961 by Sir George Fistonich, stands as a pioneer of the modern New Zealand wine industry. The Private Bin Gewurztraminer showcases the unique terroir of New Zealand's sun-drenched East Coast, primarily sourcing fruit from the warm, maritime-influenced vineyards of Hawke's Bay and Gisborne. This region's long growing season and clay-over-limestone soils allow the notoriously finicky Gewürztraminer grape to develop intense aromatic complexity while maintaining refreshing acidity. Crafted in a vibrant, off-dry style, the wine undergoes cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve its intense, exotic bouquet of lychee, rose petals, and five-spice. It represents Villa Maria's historic dedication to making highly expressive, approachable wines that capture the pure, fruit-driven essence of the North Island.

Villa Maria blev grundlagt i 1961 af Sir George Fistonich og har udviklet sig fra en beskeden, lejet parcel på to hektar i Māngere, Auckland, til en af New Zealands mest toneangivende vininstitutioner. Vingården blev overtaget af Indevin Group i 2021 og viderefører sit stolte virke med stor regional og stilistisk spændvidde, hvor druematerialet hentes fra fremragende mikroklimaer i Marlborough, Hawke's Bay, Gisborne og Auckland. Markarbejdet tager afsæt i en dyb respekt for miljøet, og huset er grundlæggende medlem af Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, hvilket suppleres af dedikerede økologiske parceller.
