The Rüdesheimer Berg Rottland is situated on the steep, sun-drenched slopes of the Rhine Gorge, where the river makes a dramatic turn. The vineyard's name is derived from the word 'roden', which refers to the clearing of forest land for viticulture that began here in the 11th century under the direction of the Mainz archbishops. This historic site features a unique microclimate and complex soils composed of iron-rich slate, quartzite, and gravelly loam. Weingut Leitz coaxes an incredibly powerful and expressive Riesling from this terroir, characterized by its intense flinty minerality, ripe stone fruit aromas, and a vibrant, structuring acidity that reflects the sheer intensity of this grand cru site.
