The Rüdesheimer Bischofsberg, or 'Bishop's Mountain,' takes its name from the historical influence of the Archbishops of Mainz, who held sway over the Rheingau's viticultural landscape for centuries. Situated on a gentle slope rising above the Rhine, the Bischofsberg vineyard features deep, fertile soils composed of loess, loam, and quartzite. This unique soil composition retains moisture effectively, which, when combined with the humid autumn mists rising from the nearby river, creates the perfect incubator for Botrytis cinerea, or noble rot. Weingut Leitz harnesses this natural phenomenon in exceptional vintages to craft their Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA). The process is an exercise in extreme patience and labor: pickers meticulously harvest individual, shriveled, botrytized berries by hand. The resulting nectar is fermented slowly, yielding an incredibly concentrated, luscious sweet wine where intense honeyed richness is brilliantly balanced by the electric, mineral-driven acidity characteristic of Rheingau Riesling.

Weingut Leitz, located in the historic town of Rüdesheim am Rhein in Germany's Rheingau region, traces its winemaking heritage back to 1744. Under the visionary leadership of Johannes Leitz, who took over the family estate in 1985, the winery has earned international acclaim for its exceptional, terroir-driven Rieslings. The estate meticulously manages some of the Rheingau's most prestigious steep-slope grand cru vineyards, including Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg, Berg Rottland, and Berg Roseneck. Renowned for their remarkable purity, vibrant acidity, and deep minerality, Leitz's wines range from bone-dry expressions to luscious, noble sweet Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese, alongside a pioneering range of premium non-alcoholic wines.
