Sourced from vineyards rich in quartzite and weathered slate, the wine reflects the unique microclimate of the Rheingau, where the Rhine river bends and reflects sunlight directly onto the hillside vines. Weingut Leitz traces its familial viticultural ancestry back to 1744, though its modern renaissance commenced in 1985 when Johannes Leitz assumed control of the war-ravaged, 2.9-hectare family estate in Rüdesheim am Rhein. Through meticulous parcel acquisition and restoration of steep, historic slate and quartzite terraces, Leitz transformed the domaine into a premier Rheingau reference point. The estate's premier holdings encompass celebrated VDP.Grosse Lagen crus on the dramatic south-facing slopes of the Rüdesheimer Berg, including Berg Schlossberg, Berg Roseneck, Berg Kaisersteinfels, and Berg Rottland Hinterhaus. Farming is conducted sustainably under FAIR'N GREEN certification, employing green cover crops, pomace composting, and manual slope work. Cellar practices combine spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel and neutral Stückfass casks, yielding dry Rieslings characterized by crystalline minerality, razor-sharp tension, and phenolic depth, alongside innovative benchmarks such as the non-alcoholic Eins Zwei Zero portfolio.
