In the dramatic, steep hills of Southern Styria, Chardonnay is known by its historic local synonym, Morillon—a name steeped in local lore, with some tales tracing its origin back to visiting monks who brought the vines from France. Weingut Tement’s Ried Sulz Morillon is a masterful expression of this variety, sourced from the Erste Lage Ried Sulz vineyard. This south-facing amphitheater features a unique, warm microclimate and deep, calcareous marl soils locally known as 'Opok.' These heavy soils impart a profound, savory depth and intense saline minerality to the wine. Crafted under strict biodynamic principles, the grapes are hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented, and aged on their fine lees in neutral oak casks. The resulting wine beautifully balances a creamy, textured palate with a vibrant, tension-filled acidity, capturing the wild, pristine essence of the Styrian landscape.
