β¨ Technical Specifications
Hailing from the steep, sun-drenched slopes of the KrΓΆver Steffensberg, this Auslese is a masterclass in the tension between luscious sweetness and vibrant, electric acidity. Unlike the quartz-heavy soils of other Mosel sites, the Steffensberg vineyard is characterized by deep, iron-rich grey slate, which imparts a distinctively spicy, herbal, and deeply mineral backbone to the wine. Weingut Vollenweider, founded by the visionary Daniel Vollenweider, meticulously coaxes this expression from old, often ungrafted Riesling vines. The 'Nr. 7' designation represents a highly selective bottling of botrytised grapes, harvested by hand in multiple passes. Fermented spontaneously with native yeasts and aged in stainless steel, this wine captures the pure, crystalline essence of the Mosel, balancing rich notes of honeyed peach, dried apricot, and wild herbs with a laser-like mineral finish.
πΎ About the Producer
Founded in 1999 by Swiss native Daniel Vollenweider, Weingut Vollenweider is based in Traben-Trarbach in Germany's celebrated Mosel valley. Without family land or inherited infrastructure, Vollenweider dedicated himself to reviving neglected, century-old ungrafted vines clinging to the dramatic, slate-rich amphitheater of the Wolfer Goldgrube. Through meticulous, hands-on cultivation of these extreme steep slopes and traditional, low-intervention cellar work, the estate became a beacon of pure Mosel expression. Today, Weingut Vollenweider is internationally revered for its crystalline, mineral-laden Rieslings, particularly its legendary, highly collectible Auslese and Goldkapsel dessert wines.
