Weingut Vollenweider's Riesling Spätlese is a masterclass in the delicate balance of sweetness and electric acidity that defines the Middle Mosel. Sourced primarily from the dramatic, precipitously steep slopes of the Wolfer Goldgrube—a vineyard historically prized for its weathered grey slate soils and ancient, ungrafted vines—this wine captures the essence of a bygone era. The late Daniel Vollenweider fell in love with this forgotten terroir and dedicated his life to restoring it. The grapes are harvested late in the season by hand, often in multiple passes to select only the most perfect, sun-ripened berries. In the cellar, minimal intervention is the rule: gentle pressing, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and slow maturation in neutral vessels. The result is a Spätlese of extraordinary tension, offering a complex aromatic tapestry of stone fruits, white blossoms, and a profound, smoky slate minerality that keeps the residual sweetness perfectly poised and never heavy.

Founded in 1999 by Swiss native Daniel Vollenweider, Weingut Vollenweider is based in Traben-Trarbach in Germany's celebrated Mosel valley. Without family land or inherited infrastructure, Vollenweider dedicated himself to reviving neglected, century-old ungrafted vines clinging to the dramatic, slate-rich amphitheater of the Wolfer Goldgrube. Through meticulous, hands-on cultivation of these extreme steep slopes and traditional, low-intervention cellar work, the estate became a beacon of pure Mosel expression. Today, Weingut Vollenweider is internationally revered for its crystalline, mineral-laden Rieslings, particularly its legendary, highly collectible Auslese and Goldkapsel dessert wines.
